The GLA:D program includes education and exercise sessions that you can do in your own home under the supervision of a GLA:D trained clinician who will supervise your activity through your computer or phone.
The information below will help you to decide if the virtual program is right for you as well as help you to prepare. This information is also available to download here.
Technology:
You will need to have the technology which includes a camera for your therapist to see you doing your exercises. Any smart phone, tablet or laptop should be sufficient. The therapist will connect with you, probably through email, and will provide you with the instructions and/or links so that they can see you remotely.
Consent:
You will need to provide your consent to complete the program remotely.
Assessment and set up:
The clinician will complete an assessment, using the video, to make sure that your condition will benefit from the program. They will also check the equipment and the space and will let you know of anything you might need for the exercises. There are no specific requirements for equipment however the therapist may have some suggestions that will make the program easier for you to follow. They will also let you know about the clothes to wear as they will need to see your legs move. This will be a one on one call during which you can ask questions about how the program will work and who will be attending etc.
Group session:
As the GLA:D program is a group-based session the clinician will be looking at more than one person on their screen and you should also be seeing the other people who are participating in the class. The clinician will provide both general direction to the group and will also provide you with corrections on your exercises. Make sure that you ask questions about how you are performing an exercise. The GLA:D program is all about doing the exercises correctly so make sure that the therapist is able to see your movement from both the front and from the side.
Outcome measures:
One of the components of the GLA:D program is collecting outcome measures. Your clinician will ask you if you agree to provide your outcomes and, if so, you will receive an email that includes a link that will take you to the questionnaires. The outcomes are collected before the program, and then again after 3 months and 1 year. Completing these questionnaires is critical as we use the information to track how patients are responding and to modify the program to help people in the future.
